Fixing statsmodels turned into a much bigger job than I was expecting:
* The tests were disabled, possibly by accident. Re-enabling them
found that 70 fail, for ~10 different reasons that all look related to
newer versions of dependencies. These are all now fixed (except the
already-excluded 4, which are still excluded).
* The example output in the documentation (produced at build time)
contained many error messages:
... A few more issues related to newer versions of dependencies and/or
of statsmodels itself.
... Loading data from the cache (which we pre-populate to allow offline
building) was broken in Python 3.
These have been fixed. There are still several errors from trying to
download data we don't have cached (I haven't tried to add it, partly
because I am unsure of the legality of doing so, and partly because
it's often loaded by methods that don't use our existing cache
mechanism), but these are not new.
I left #880245 unfixed: upstream's real fix doesn't apply as-is to 0.8
and is big enough that trying to adapt it didn't seem a good idea, and
given how long the documentation bugs above probably existed before
anyone noticed, I'd rather not do a workaround that would allow even
more broken documentation to go unnoticed if we don't have to.
This is on salsa as the buster branch (commit
522017cf17578820637ec49614a46b30854f78c3, with unfinalized changelog as
per team policy).
(Reminder: pandas also needs an upload with the patch in #918206, as
this is RC.)
