Hi Jordan,
This is my main concern as well. Can you pre-enquire before sending a
more formal request ?
I think that if it there is a consensus, it would be great to have your
patch backed by work groups in the science area, but also in the desktop
area, to show that there is a broad agreement and the changes will be
adopted.
After you have an answer, I propose that we start contacting other
distros, and for Debian and Ubuntu, our respective GNOME, KDE, and Xfce
teams.
As we say in French, "il faut battre le fer quand il est chaud"
(blacksmith should better work on hot iron).
