The guidelines were followed. This change is not intrusive.

It's also relevant for bin-NMU, which can be necessary whenever there
is a security release for X core. That is precisely why this was
requested. Again, I had only held this off until the very end because
too may people depend upon this being backportable to whatever is the
latest stable release.

Making this more explicit can be easily done. It's only a question of
how I word the changelog entry about migrating to XSF ways for shlibs,
versus updating them manually in debian/control.
