Well, it should, if not it is a bug, and you should file a bug report :)

Well, ok, but that is probably hardly the alsa modules fault, which should
know about your hardware (not sure though). Did you make sure that udev or
alsa-* did load the needed modules, and you probably need to upgrade/configure
your alsa stuff.

You didn't tell me which version of the 2.6.15 packages you used, 2.6.15-2
(not to confund with the 2.6.15-1 abiname) had a bug in the headers.

Also, module-assistant may not know about the ARCH=ppc -> ARCH=powerpc change.

The debian kernel and included alsa modules should work, if not, this is a
bug which needs fixing.
