One thing I can think of is the wrapper script for pbbuttonsd, it
used to be /etc/power/pwrctl{,-local} and is now
/etc/power/pwrctl-wrapper; I remember the upgrade didn't go flawless
here, so maybe there's something in there that does something wrong
on wakeup which causes further sleep-wake-cycles to fail.

I think it got solved in 2.6.4, at least for my machine (G3/900,rev2.2).
I might be wrong about it, but could it be that the DRC-Range channel
got added around that time? It has to be set to max volume here.
