Re: sound on Lombard G3 [playing music cd's]

- Right. CD is playing!

I was wrong ('scuse me)...
Still won't get any terminal noises...
Tried with aumix (Volume 100 - what other settings do I need?!?)...

Thanx very much!
Cheers, nico

Check your mixer settings. If you press the backspace key at a command prompt, when the volume is turned up, you should hear a beep.

Successfully installed 'xmms-cdread'. However I have encountered the following problems: If 'CD Audio Player' is disabled, no files appear in the /cdrom directory. If 'CD Audio Player' is enabled, I can select tracks through the file selector. They are played but without any sound. Now after installing 'xmms-cdread' I can't even play local mp3's anymore (this used to work).

Because you didn't see what I said. You have to open /dev/cdrom or whatever CD device, not look in /cdrom. Also, make sure you've chosen the right output plugin (the OSS output plugin) in the preferences.

- Erm, can't follow: What software am I supposed to use?!?

Um, xmms with the xmms-cdread package should work fine. I've used it on my Pismo, and a round iBook I had previously, and it always worked fine.
