If the SB Live for Mac is anything like the SB Live for PC, then I
can tell you what your problem is. The sb16 and sbawe drivers are
for old ISA cards (for example, the Sound Blaster 16, and the
Sound Blaster AWE64). The SB Live should use the emu10k1 driver.

Is the emu10k1 driver in the alsa configuration list or should I compile it into the kernel.  When I do

$ dpkg-reconfigure alsa-base

It is not in the selected list of alsa drivers.  I am assuming that the new soundblaster driver is not supported in alsa?
