Sudden loss of keyboard and mouse

Hello,

I have a very strange problem with my Keyboard and Mouse. Without
warning, my computer will fail to recognize any input from either
keyboard or mouse (ie the computer does not recognize any input
coming from the keyboard or mouse). It is nearly random when it
will happen. The only thing that appears to coincide with loss
of input is the kernel will swap some memory pages. It seems that
memory paging while moving the mouse is particularly conducive to
killing my keyboard and mouse.

Another possible coincidence are these kernel.log messages:

Apr 8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: ide_pmac_dmaproc: chipset supported
ide_dma_lostirq func only: 13
Apr 8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: hda: lost interrupt
Apr  8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x58 { DriveReady
SeekComplete DataRequest }
Apr 8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: hda: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy
}
Apr 8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: hda: DMA disabled
Apr 8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: hda: drive not ready for command
Apr 8 22:20:36 nolandia kernel: ide0: reset: success

In this instance I retained input ability, but lost it in another
minor swap event 4 hours later. Unfortunately, there are no log
messages that coincide with losing input ability this time.

My setup is:

OldWorld StarMax4200 (PMac 4400 clone)
160MB RAM
/dev/hda contains / and 256MB of swap
/dev/hdc contains 600MB of swap
2.4.14 with XFS patch

Thanks,

Anthony
