I've recently submitted a patch to the OSS dmasound driver that adds
support for snapper, which fixes the mixer problems with recent tibooks.

There's still a lot of work to do, but audio now works fine for me.

When I checked out the most recent ALSA release, there was support there
for tumbler, but not snapper, so the mixer problems were exactly the
same.

I imagine that it won't be long before they have snapper support; it's
only slightly different from tumbler.

Toby.
