I use and it works with my iBook2 and my Compaq Armada V300
(i.e., on both x86 and ppc). Works fine for me. I use
ifup/ifdown/interfaces. The gmac (or was that bmac?) is
compiled as a module and I defined an alias for eth0 for the
	module name.

there is anything remaining from older installs of DHCP
	clients that may be interfering.
