No, no -- two things:

- I put an image behind the translucent apple logo, which necessitated
removal of the outer shell from the lid.  The problem came up a couple
of weeks after I did this, so I'm pretty sure this (or, rather, my
clumsiness in doing it) is the cause, and that it's my fault.

- I upgraded from a 20 to a 40 GB hard drive myself.  This was at
least three months before the problem arose, and I wasn't clumsy at
all (except that there was one screw I couldn't find a place for
during reassembly) and I don't think it's related.  But I'm pretty
sure it voids the warranty.

Still, I'll take it to the people here on campus and give it a shot,
if my own investigation does not show anything.
