This is, unfortunately, correct.  I was mistaken.  The hcopy program
in hfsutils can do .hqx files and .bin files but not .sit files.  You
will have to get stuffit expander.  It's a free download from

*This* you can download under linux and use hcopy to install on your
macos partition.  Then, you can use it under macos to install bootx.
