Bug#144297: debian-policy: perl policy section 3.3 doesn't allow for build directories other than debian/tmp

Actually, he just pointed out an obvious bug in the policy document. You
have to be pedantic in standard and standard like documents, otherwise they
are worthless. Or policy should be renamed to "Guidelines for Debian packages"
or something like that.

Why are you jumping at the messanger, instead thanking him for reporting a
small overseight in the wording? You are doing your best to shoot down
people trying to help. Even if it is decided that the current wording is
fine (which, taken literally, it isn't), there is no need to overreact like
you did.

No, it should just be a bit more careful here and there. A slight change in
the wording, stating that:

> IT'S UP TO THE MAINTAINER. IT'S AN EXAMPLE.

but in a less loudly way is all that is required. And it really does only
need the decision of the policy editor because it is obviously an
overseight. Please note that in the policy manual itself, it is always done
correct. It uses for example the phrase "like this" when giving examples,
and in one place it even says:

Then let `debian/rules' install it in the control area:
          install -m644 debian/shlibs debian/tmp/DEBIAN
or, in the case of a multi-binary package:
          install -m644 debian/shlibs.<package> debian/<package>/DEBIAN/shlibs

Which arguably suffers from the same defect, but I think it's good enough
anyway.

Why are some people so jumpy around here?

Thanks,
Marcus
