Of course. This is possible, although I'd guess the situation to be 
rare. Even if it wasn't, using the available work and only adjusting 
it as needed is what I'd do anytime. In case you (the sysadmin trying 
to backport a package) face difficulties, we encourage contacting us 
for help.

I don't know if we would be able to keep up if faced with numerous 
backport requests. We'll see if somebody tries us :)
