Communication was always good and constructive. I've sponsored one of his (I think) first Debian packages (speakup). To start with a linux-modules-package is definitely not the easiest way, but he did really well. He demonstrated skill and good communication as well as a willingness to learn. I definitely support his intent to become a Debian Maintainer.
