I appreciate the input. This is IMO a reason to be using (d)git.
This is how we can review the two sets of changes:
upstream:
git diff dgit/dgit/sid..HEAD -- . ':!debian'
packaging:
git diff dgit/dgit/sid..HEAD -- debian
