I sent this about two weeks ago, but it didn't get any response.
Oh, just one thing: this packaging is supposed to be as disruptive as
possible, with more to come, one I became the actual maintainer of this
(already agreed with David Frey).
Also, you may notice that this program was packaged quite a long time
ago, and it doesn't use debhelper or anything similar. It was just doing
its things with simple shell commands. I opted to keep it this way for
*this* upload. (As you can see, I am quite conservative here).
Further uploads will migrate to debhelper & co.

Dear mentors,
The package magicfilter, a print filter for spoolers like lpr/lprng/etc,
in Debian had some issues (dependencies on nonexistent packages)
since it had not been updated in the last 3 years (according to the
changelog, its last updated was in 2006).
Since I use the package regularly and care about it, I would love to see
it uploaded to Debian and I plan on taking care of it (it is currently
RFA'ed, as said in Bug #176737).
I am, thus, looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.2-60.1 of
magicfilter.
Here is the relevant part of the changelog:

* Non-maintainer upload.
* Do some QA work, since I care about this package and the current
maintainer issued an RFA bug (176737).
* debian/control: revamp the file:
+ replace tetex-bin with texlive.
+ replace gs with ghostscript.
+ remove gzip dependency & build-dependency (it's essential).
+ remove dvips nonexistent dependency (dvips is included in texlive).
+ remove libjpeg-gif dependency (nonexistent).
+ add poppler-utils in front of xpdf-utils (the first is more updated).
+ add autotools-dev to build-deps.
+ wrap the build-deps and deps fields.
+ add Homepage: field.
* debian/watch: create from scratch.
* debian/rules:
+ don't ignore make errors.
+ don't ignore make errors (-i).
+ soon to use a patch system (quilt).
+ soon to use debhelper (it's homebrew for now).
+ add upstream changelog.
* debian/{postinst,postrm,prerm}:
+ use "set -e".
* debian/copyright:
+ refer to GPL-2, not GPL.
+ added upstream copyright notice.
* debian/menu:
+ change section to "Applications/System/Administration".
* debian/control:
+ change Standards-Version to 3.8.1.

The source builds this binary package:
magicfilter - automatic printer filter
The package appears to be lintian clean (only one "pedantic" lintian
warning, but that's all).
