Sorry, you're missing the various discussions that left the mailing
lists and took place in private mail.

No. It's a binary-only package. There is no debian/rules file
available for either of those programs to use. I have subsequently
compared the .changes file that I generated by hand to match some of those
posted to debian-changes, and even changed the few spots that looked
different to match. It didn't help. Another maintainer has gone over my
.changes file and other than those spots that looked a little different,
saw no errors. It was also suggested that I needed to pgp-sign the
.changes file. I did that. Didn't help. Each field matches the
parameters listed in the packaging manual. My best guess is that dupload
doesn't like the binary-only single-deb upload, and I'm going to have to
upload it by hand. Since the .changes file looks good enough to not
mangle whatever automatic scripts are in place, I'll probably be doing
that overnight tonight.

    It'll barf on not finding a debian/changelog. I've tried it. If I
rename DEBIAN/ to debian/, dpkg -b fails and the system gets all confused.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate all the help, but I'm not so
lazy or incompetent as to have not even *tried* the things that have been
already suggested. I'm still panacking and hanging around because they
didn't work.
