I haven't asked, since I instead got informed about what blocks Scala
packaging in an open bug asking for packaging Scala 2.12, of which thread

explains sbt is mandatory for building new Scala versions and asks for
help. I thus see the Java team is much aware of Scala state. Personally
I don't think I can help with sbt packaging.

If you remember seeing a discussion on sbt, I think it might be revived
to express our interest.
