Hmmm, that's sad. :-(

ok but now the problem is in the changes to the debian files, the result
is:

dh_installdocs -pimagej
	install -g 0 -o 0 -d debian/imagej/usr/share/doc/imagej
install: impossibile creare la directory `debian/imagej': Not a
directory
dh_installdocs: command returned error code 256
make: *** [binary-install/imagej] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: failure: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit
status 2

i think is a problem due to the changes done in rules and others debian
files that i don' understand :( if i understood the problem is in your
changelog "* Do the copying work in debian/install instead of
debian/rules" that is more compliant but how to change from my
dh_installman -i debian/imagej.1 ?

What debian/rules file are you using?
The one in the svn uses cdbs and cares via debian/manpages and
debian/docs for the installation of the documentation. Probably
you should read

   man dh_installman
   man dh_installdocs

to understand how this works. I have no explanation for the error that
occures above.

WOuld you mind checking in your changes into SVN to enable us to
reproduce the problem?

Kind regards and thanks for your patient work on imagej

        Andreas.
