Vista [Was: ODIN]

[Additional CC: Gert Wollny <wollny@cns.mpg.de> who has done the Debian
packaging in the Upstream tarball. Gerd, we - the Debian-Med project
would like to prepare vista as official Debian package because we try
to build a fully functional medical environment. Any comments to the
 Debian-Med mailing list are welcome.]

BTW: I'm always having trouble finding the libvista upstream source on
the net, but I know that it is (or has been) there.

I admit googling was not easy but finally I found it at:

While beeing orphaned from the former upstream developers the development
seems to be continued in the MIA (no, it's not Missing In Action it is
Tools for Medical Image Analysis ;-))

     http://mia.sourceforge.net/index.html

framework. I checked into Debian-Med SVN some preliminary (not working!,
because based on an upload from the Odin web page and heavy patches of
the autotools stuff which is not yet checked in) files - the watch file
is working in case you want to download the latest version 2.2.1.

I think it would be no real problem to come up with vista packages
before this year ends. The following things are to be done:

   - Removing upstream debian directory (which is not working) and
ask upstream to leave it out
   - Patching automake stuff (no problem in principle) and forewarding
     this to upstream
   - Verifying licenses
   - Packaging library

I could go for this - except somebody else wants to do the work himself.
I could give some additional hints in this case and some patches for
automake.

Moreover we should check the other stuff on the MIA page and perhaps
somebody could have a look at Odin.

Kind regards

           Andreas.
