The only part that sounds weird is the sentence “The current team resources
are only enough to keep up with the observed workload, and would be unable
to extend this further.”.

First you dropped the "Yet" that started the sentence, I have the feeling that
it was an important articulation. Thus I added a "Despite this" in front of it
now. I don't know if it's better.

But the part that sounds weird is the second half, which implicitly reads
as “The current team resources […] would be unable to extend this
further”. I'm not an English native speaker but this sounds clunky to me.

maybe “would not be sufficient to extend this further” ? or “do not allow
the project to extend this furher” ?
