Always makes sense to rule out variables and not to assume.
OS has been Linux Kernel based since 1999.
I use "dd bs=8192 if=Live.iso of=/dev/USBDrive ; sync" most of
time. Most meaning sometimes use a "bs=4096" if the
information or math of ISO image size says/suggests so.
The sync is important as there is often lots of image still
buffered in Kernel. Often takes a few minutes after dd
completes for sync to ensure buffers related to dd are written
to the USBDrive (i.e. /dev/sdb). In this instance Debian 9.9.0
LiveCD (LXDE) was used via laptop that has had the ongoing
LiveCD boot issues of Debian 9.x I have played the bugs against
each other to be able to boot from the laptop.
