Go into a bookstore, pick up a copy of a book, take it over to the
salesclerk and say "Will you sell me this copy?".  The clerk will look at
you funny and say "Of course.  Selling books is what we do here."  Buy the
copy and then announce "Ok, you sold me this copy.  That means you gave me
all rights to the contents."  The clerk will say "Are you nuts?  You bought
the copy, not the copyright!"

To sell a copy is to sell a copy.  The buyer owns the copy, not the
copyright.
