I've been discussing the vim license with the main vim author (Bram
Moolenaar for a while now. He has an interesting suggestion about
changing the license, and I'm not sure if it satifies the DFSG. I'll
translate the last mail. I'll prefix translations and comments with a ].

Dat blijkt niet zo te zijn. Vrijwel overal wordt Vim ongewijzigd verspreid.
Ik krijg zelden mailtjes hierover, en ken ook geen verspreiding van gewijzigde
versies (behalve dan kleine wijzigingen in Makefile e.d. om het voor een
bepaalde omgeving aan te passen of te configureren).

Ik snap je bezwaar wel, maar de oplossing ontkracht het hele idee. Dat is
zoiets als in een winkel het vervangen van "je moet de meegenomen producten
betalen" door "je wordt aangemoedigd om de meegenomen producten te betalen".
Gevolg: Je kunt niemand er op aanspreken dat hij niet betaald.

Het doel van deze tekst is om te voorkomen dat iemand een gewijzigde versie

zodat mensen die proberen met een iets uitgebreide versie van Vim te
pronken, gedwongen zijn om mij de source code te geven, als ik er achter
kom. Als ik er niet achter kom zal het wel niet belangrijk zijn.
