No, the madwifi is directly linked to the kernel and uses an
internal API, so the symbols an interface functions need to match in
order for it to work.
The applications use an API which does not change from kernel
version to version and are not linked directly to the kernel, so the
symbols are not relevant for the application.
You do not need to compile userland applications for them to keep
working.
