I see I wasn't very clear. By 'depending on either gnome or kde', I
meant 'on either the package gnome, the package kde, or any of their
specific dependencies'. So, if gnome depends on libgnome2, look for all
packages depending on libgnome2 and decide if you can replace or remove
them. Then remove libgnome2 (or eventually the gnome metapackage, which
will cause libgnome2 to be removed as well if no other package is
depending on it).
