Networking: DFE-690TXD (RTL8139) & Woody

Hello,

I have a basic 3.0r1 install on an HP laptop, and am now trying to get the networking up and running. I've read in previous posts that the 8139too driver should work for this (D-link DFE-690TXD, apparently based on RTL8139) card, but I can't see any such driver in /lib/modules/2.4.18-bf2.4/kernel/drivers/net.

-I have no eth0 device showing up (ifconfig).

-lspci isn't working, reporting "pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/02/00.0".

-PCMCIA appears to be working - the machine makes an appropriate beep on boot, and /proc/bus/pccard/00/info reports "type: TI 1420" which I believe to be correct.

This card was picked up automatically by knoppix:
-lspci said "02:00.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DFE-690TXD CardBus PC Card (rev 10)
-ifconfig reports the MAC address correctly for eth0.
-lsmod says '8139too' is loaded, and is using 'mii'. 'pcmcia_core' is loaded, and used by 'ds' and 'yenta_socket'

Any help appreciated.

Regards,
John Spray
