Re: mobile phone & linux

Hello Werner et al,

I have found these links, with only basic searches on google:

http://www.hyperdatadirect.com/product/GPRS/GPRS-FlashCard.htm

http://stores.comunion.com/clients/ConvergentTech/index.cfm?action=cat.productOptions&productID=73568&categoryid=3355

Also, many links pop up associated with "Zaurus".

What I was looking for is someone who is using a CF_gprs modem in both a PDA, such as Zaurus and a portable running linux(debian would be really cool) and the kernel version/hacks they used to get it working. A while back I ran across a GPRS CF modem, that supported the Hayes AT command set, for embedded products, but is was costly. They pointed me to links about where to get the chips to build a gprs modem, from an OEM supplier. Naturally, now that I have time, and a few coins, I cannot
find that link.

Fugitsu_Siemens also seem to be active in this space. Yes there are CF-GPRS modems out there, and we should be
seeing more soon. I'll keep looking around.

Does anybody know of a GPRS modem in a Compact Flash form factor?
I'd like to get it working on linux, both in my portable, and in a
Linux based PDA.

I would like to know that for the TuxMobil PCMCIA/CF card
database http://tuxmobil.org/pcmcia_linux.html , too. But
actually I doubt that GPRS CF cards will become available.
Because the are probably to small to take the chipset as well
as the SIM card. If this will be solved the prices would
be tremendous, the GPRS PCMCIA cards cost very much already.
A cheaper solution will be to use a GPRS enabled cell phone
together with a IrDA or BlueTooth or serial cable connection
to the PDA or laptop. See Infrared-HOWTO and BlueTooth-HOWTO
for details.
