Well.. PCMCIA integrates with APM pretty well (check /etc/apm/event.d),
whereas the /etc/networks/interfaces stuff AFAIK doesn't.

Why not tweak /etc/pcmcia/{network,wireless}.opts so you run the network
entirely through there?
