problem with asus lk8460 and apm

Hi all,
I've just but an asus lk8460 laptop (I think that outside from the
europe is called asus l8400 k series ..) and I've read a bounce of page
on linux-on-laptops saying that all works well, but currently I really
don't agree! :-(

The major problem I'm feeling is with apm. I can easily see the battery
status and shutdown properly the laptop, but standby and suspends (both
suspend to ram and suspend to disk) just freeze the machine *before
entering the standby/suspend mode*.

I'm using linux kernel 2.4.10 with apm version 3.0final.
I've noticed that at boot kernel report this message:

ASUSTeK machine detected. Enabling interrupts during APM calls.

but the problem persist.

Anybody have a pointer where to look to solve this problem?

TIA
