i've got kinda the same.

Try to boot up with a rescue disk. Then mount your harddisk and edit
/mount-point/etc/pcmcia/config.opts

There you'll find a line like:
include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0x1000-0x17ff

my sound chip sits on 0x1000 and causes the hang. I'm not really sure if
the soundchip on your laptop sits on the same port. But i kicked out the
second port range. The lame becomes then:

include port 0x100-0x4ff

and everything works.

Ps: can you let me know if you can get XFree working with that smi
chip? The standard svga server supports that chip, but i can't get it
working. I'm using the framebuffer device now, but that's kinda slow.

Greetz,
Jo
