excellent advice in my opinion.

i would like to add "pointing device" to the "things you can't really
change".

the pointing device is what basically makes it next-to-impossible for
me to choose anything other than ibm or toshiba (w/ a few exceptions)
-- and i have a hard time going for the latter.
