My point is that my system is configured as UTF-8, but when I fire up
debconf in a Latin-1 environment (by using a Latin-1 terminal and
Latin-1 environment variables), strings are not translated.
Maybe your point is that there's no point in supporting such a
configuration? I agree that it doesn't seem terribly important. But
actually it matters to me, because even though my system is configured
as UTF-8 (because of that's what I selected during the installation), I
kinda dislike it and I want to switch my personal environment to
Latin-1, leaving my wife's untouched. Does that mean that Debconf would
never show translated strings to me? That kinda sucks.
Maybe we should copy the Debconf developers here just to hear their
opinion on the matter.
