Is MIDI configuration possible under knoppix?

I've spent many fruitless hours (since 1.5 years ago!)
trying to get rosegarden2 working under knoppix 3.4
(my customized remaster).

The midi ports don't get autoconfigured and the
problem is that I don't know IF its possible to get
the ports to configure in knoppix, since I haven't
found anyone in the forums who got it working.

Unfortunately the folks at the Linux (non-knoppix)
audio forums aren't any help, since they recommend
ditching knoppix and rosegarden2/OSS drivers (in favor
of rosegarden4 and ALSA drivers).

I know that ALSA and the newer rosegarden is more
advanced, but the version of rosegarden included in
knoppix will suit my needs fine if I can get it
working. I have several midi interface cards known to
be compatable with Linux OSS (ISA, PCI, and USB).

I do not want to move away from the knoppix
(customized) liveCD, so the Agnula harddisk install is
not an option (especially since Agnula utilizes ALSA
now). I assume that since knoppix includes
rosegarden2 and OSS drivers, that it is possible, or
else why would Klause include rosegarden2?

Is midiport configuration under knoppix possible?
