Which, means after installation, I suppose. You copy, for instance, /home to
the new partition, which, being identified in HD_MAP, won't appear in fstab.
If so, I'm afraid, it's not for me yet. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure many
people appreciate your efforts and can put them to good use. But things are
often complicated enough for a non-technician like me without getting into
some more oddities.

:) I'm sure more people will appreciate if they ever run into problems, like
being unable to boot.

Oups! You're right. But that was the 3rd Knoppix site I visited that was
suggesting to use knx-install. Maybe you should advise them.

Gee! Bill Joy better brace himself, I'm getting famous :)

Just a little remark, if I may. You must write "a remastered Knoppix" and "an
email".
The rule says:
A or An.
Use an in place of a when it precedes a vowel sound, not just a vowel. That
means it's "an honor" (the h is silent), but "a UFO" (because it's pronounced
yoo eff oh). This confuses people most often with acronyms and other
abbreviations: some people think it's wrong to use "an" in front of an
abbreviation (like "MRI") because "an" can only go before vowels. Poppycock:
the sound is what matters. It's "an MRI," assuming you pronounce it "em ar
eye."
http://newark.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/Writing/a.html
So, you must say
a UFO, a U, but an "umbrella"
an A, but also an M (an "em")
I've got to agree the rule is more than a little tricky. Only usage will
really tell you. Watching tv -- beurk! -- and saying the expression aloud is
what really helps. But the rule certainly indicates that you can't write "an
remastered".
Enough technicalities :) So you were saying:
> Mepis is just a remastered knoppix.
And so are Morphix and Gnoppix and Sulix and Echelon and God only knows how
many distros. They all claim, thanks to Knoppix, to be an easier to
install Debian distro, with more up to date packages. The day one comes up
with a standard fstab, a firewall, a secure, really Debian compliant distro,
it's going to make the grade. And, of course, it might be you with your
script. (Knoppix, as it stands, has moved way past Gentoo to 3rd rank at
Distrowatch for the last month...)
But there might also be a danger to people brewing up their own little new
distro out of Knoppix. For instance, when such a "developper" tells you that
he thinks a firewall should be started in inittab, you wonder what kind of
security his distro will provide.
So, as a dummy, I just hold my breath while experts make a judgement.
