Re: [debian-knoppix] Knoppix installed on HD: still not a standard Debian!
Seconded... Knoppix is not meant to be used as a Debian Installer,
even though Debian could use one as nice as Knoppix ;)
Knoppix overall is quite a breakthrough in how Linux can be
used... for instance I reformatted the boot floppy and KNOPPIX image to
work on a 1GB CF card and I use that as my main desktop at home. Unless
you're doing media stuff, 150-200MB for data is fine, and I have other
machines for media processing :)
Right now I'm playing with cramming the KDE bits of Knoppix onto a
256MB CF for an ancient Thinkpad. It's not working yet, but I'm going to
keep tinkering with it until I have something that works.
Eventually (Q4?) I'll get a VIA Antaur eNote and replace it's HD
with a Lexar 1GB CF + 2.5" adapter for a very small and cool running
notebook.
So Knoppix is primarily a demo CD, and secondarily a great
hackers' toy - I'm enjoying playing with the technology, and I like the
Debian underpinnings a lot. If you want something different, then pay
someone to do it or wait for someone who can to do it on their own (like
Knoppix disks entirely from Debian repositories, which I'd like but don't
really *need*)
Anyway, thanks to everyone who's developing knoppix, and no thanks
to all the whiners.
