there's been a lot of discussion going on, i really recommend you try
and look back in the past week or so when you have a chance. i think
we're starting to form a pretty solid roadmap now, that's a little
something like this:

1 ] audit knoppix-specific packages
	- try to find debian-based alternatives
	- ITP/RFP the ones that are absolutely necessary (andreas and i)
	- fix policy violations etc. in these packages
	- (ideally) upload to debian (we'll need dd's, maybe i'll be
	  one by then... :)

2 ] meanwhile, create a way to easily get the essential knoppix goodies.
    (i'm on this)
	- make a knoppix-specific debian repository for packages
	- create a set of tasks, virtual packages or some other kind
of context-oriented list so packages don't have to be necesarily
	  installed by name

3 ] make scripts/hooks into the debootstrap process for
installing parts of knoppix into a chroot (multiple people have
given suggestions and scripts, this shouldn't be too difficult once
"2" is done, we just need to some more calls to debootstrap)

4 ] get the translated metadistros scripts and merge work together :)
	- we can take your mastering tools and merge them with/replace whatever
	  we have done
	- you will then have a knoppix base and/or hw autodetection for
	  metadistros
	- klaus will have, if he likes what he sees, an über easy way
	  to maintain his distribution

does that sound about right, everyone?

yeah, no sense at all in having 20 people re-inventing each other's
wheels.

anyway, lemme know what you think,
