KDE 3.2.1 Login Manager useless ?

Hi all,

I found lots of instructions on how to change my KDE login prompt directly 
using the X config files, but I want to change the look of the login screen 
using the KDE login manager located in the KDE Control Center.

The options I choose in the Login Manager to change the look seem to have no 
effect at all. In fact, none of the options in the Login Manager have any 
effect.

Any suggestions?
