KDE 3.1.1 (Cheney's debs), kio_smb "internal error", wants me to report a bug, but...

...I don't know which package to report against, kdebase-kio-plugins or
libsmbclient or what.

Steps:

1) Read debian-kde archives to find the s3kr3t location of working KDE 3.1.1
    debs. Installed kdenetwork-related packages.

2) Hacked through lisa setup by trial-and-error until "telnet localhost 7741"
    returns something useful.

2.5) Discover

      http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2003/debian-kde-200303/msg00624.html

which clearly means that kdebase-kio-plugins should depend on
    libsmbclient. Install libsmbclient.

3) Fired up konqueror, clicked on "LAN Browser", started clicking on machines
which have been running Samba. Click my way down to "homes".

(Annoyingly, the left-hand "tree view" doesn't show anything new. It's
still just "LAN Browser". So I'm not sure anymore what else is between
    the initial click and "homes".)

4) Click on any of the services, such as "homes". Get:

An error occured while loading smb://magnolia/edwardpm/:

        Internal Error
Please send a full bug report at http://bugs.kde.org
        Unknown error condition

Trying to do /anything/ at bugs.kde.org just causes the browser to hang,
so I'm hoping someone here might tell me what I can try next, how to gather
any more information that could be useful, ...?
