Aha.  That means I need to add libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1 to the set of ia32
Debian library packages delivered in the ia32-libs package.  That's easy
enough to fix, look for a new version in the archive soon, or you can snatch 
it right now from 

        ftp://ftp.gag.com/debian/ia64/ia32-libs_0.3_ia64.deb
