Lokalize is too much "KDE-ish" (i.e., too many packages and libs from KDE
and QT) to my tasting. I finally installed Virtaal as other users
suggested. Despite the interface is a bit "spartan" it provides the basics
I need for dealing with PO files.

Spell-checking is a must for a CAT tool. Anyway, maybe you find this

P.S. Say "hello" to people at Debian English mailing list, I had to
