Well, I don't remember any interruption in my use of PO eidting tools over the years, since I adopted KDE because of Kbabel, back in 2004. So, I can't confirm that Lokalize was so unusable at some point (at least not more unusable than the whole KDE4 thing when Debian switched to it). As a consequence, it would still be my recommendation, even for people not using KDE. But of course, one's mileage may vary and opinions are quite likely to differ in such issues.
