Work started on Release Notes for Etch (II)

Hello again,

Thanks to all the translators who have responded to the last mail. We are
now ready to really begin work.

So far most of what has been done is removing all irrelevant text from the
Sarge release and some, relatively minor, updates for Etch. So a lot of
information still needs to be added.

However, it is probably a good idea to start translating now so you have a
good "base version" and will only need to add new text as it is added in
the English version.

The version for Etch has now been moved to "trunk" in the repository, so
you need to check out that now, and not the etch branch.
!!!! please do not use the etch branch anymore !!!!

See [1] for general information on how to get a checkout from the DDP CVS.
* To get an anonymous CVS checkout of the Etch Release Notes, now use:
  $ cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.debian.org:/cvs/debian-doc login
  $ cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.debian.org:/cvs/debian-doc -z3 \
    checkout ddp/manuals.sgml/release-notes
* If you have pserver commit access, replace "anonymous" with your
  user name.
* If you have SSH commit access, use:
  $ cvs -d :ext:<user name>@cvs.debian.org:/cvs/debian-doc -z3 \
    checkout ddp/manuals.sgml/release-notes

If you don't have commit access, but still want to translate the Release
Notes, please send your translation updates (gzipped) to the debian-doc
mailing list and someone there will commit for you.

The option to use a PO file for the translation is now available. Please
see the "Readme" file for instructions how to use it to start a new
translation. If you have any problems using this, please ask.

If you have an old translation for Sarge and would now like to start using
a PO file, it should be possible to use the Sarge version as a starting
point, but that is probably not trivial. Feel free to ask for help and
we'll see if we can help you out.

The automatic builds for the Etch version have already been started, but
for now all translations have been disabled as they are not updated yet.

When you have updated your translation to the current version, please send
a request to the debian-doc list to enable it. We will then check if it
builds correctly and, if it does, enable it.

To build the release notes yourself, you will need to install the package
debiandoc-sgml. To build your translation, make sure you are in the
directory for your translation and use:
$ make architecture=i386
To clean the files created during the build, use:
$ make clean

Cheers,
FJP
