Another success report... I've reinstalled the gnu-20000301.tar.gz
file from scratch, installed this new deb, and yes!, this version
works correctly. It also keeps working correctly when I upgrade to
hurd_20000803.deb. So I hope the cause of this bug is now clear;
thanks a lot, Marcus. :-)

Next I'm going to be (slowly:) downloading some dev tools, and try to
compile gnumach myself. Or maybe I can better wait until a fix is
patched into the gnumach source?
