What worked for me:
- debootstrap an hppa chroot from your 712.
- tar the chroot into a single file.
- NFS export the chroot, and the wherever the file is located.
- Install rbootd server.
- Download kernel sources
- Change the #define NCR_700_MAX_TAGS to 1
- Build kernel for the 715 with the nfsroot option.
- Put the *lifimage* in the rbootd servers path
- Rboot the 715/50 into the nfsroot.
- On the 715/50, mount the internal drive and unpack the chroot
  tar-ball.
- Chroot into hte 715/50's disk and run palo as required to boot the
  drive.

You should have a working 715/50 by then.
