Re: Interest in packaging for Debian

Thanks for the responses - I got Cyril's message and then went to investigate. For whatever reason the initial responses went missing.

I'm getting started pulling together some packages (one binary and some libraries as dependencies) and will send out the emails shortly.

Thanks,
fuller

Hi Mark,

First of all, welcome to Debian, and thank you for contributing!

Actually, there have been 5 responses to your 3 March 2023 email as
can be seen in the debian-go mailing list:

     https://lists.debian.org/debian-go/2023/03/threads.html

and here is the main part of the first response on 4 March 2023 by Rock Storm
(see https://lists.debian.org/debian-go/2023/03/msg00002.html ):

On how to submit for review, it is as simple as uploading it to Salsa
and announcing it here (debian-go@lists.debian.org) that it is good for review.

And then from Clément Hermann:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-go/2023/03/msg00003.html
(to the mailing list list only)

Then from Nilesh Patra: https://lists.debian.org/debian-go/2023/03/msg00007.html
(also Cc'ed to you personally)

 From Shengjing Zhu: https://lists.debian.org/debian-go/2023/03/msg00009.html

And Nilesh Patra again, also on 7 March 2023:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-go/2023/03/msg00010.html

I hope those email messages didn't end up in your spam folder in your
GMX.de email account.

I also recommend that you join us on the #debian-golang channel on
irc.debian.org where a lot of us hang out:
irc://irc.debian.org/debian-golang

I hope this email message reaches you! Cyril Brulebois (IRC handle:
kibi) has just sent you an email too.

Hope this helps! And once again, welcome to our team!

Cheers,
Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Apologies for the unsolicited e-mail, but it appears to me that you are
one of the more active Debian packagers for Go.

I sent the forwarded e-mail to the Debian list last week, but haven't
had any response, so I'm electing to contact you directly.

I just finished reading the packaging docs and started to work on Task
(to be renamed to go-task, I anticipate) and its dependencies, but if
you can offer any suggestions as to finding a mentor and sponsor, I
would really appreciate it.

Regards,
Mark

Hi all,

I am a current Fedora user and packager in my personal/spare time, but I
use Debian and Ubuntu for my day job (Dev&ML Ops Engineer at Mobileye).

I recently set up a Debian Sid system at home and I would like to work
on porting some packages to Debian, starting with Task
(https://taskfile.dev/), which I currently maintain in Fedora.

I registered for an account with salsa (under the name "fuller") which
is waiting for approval.

Any guidance on how to get started with submitting a deb package for
review and inclusion is appreciated, as this is the part that is
unclearest to me at present (is it really just as simple as
https://people.debian.org/~stapelberg/2015/07/27/dh-make-golang.html ?).

Thanks,
fuller
