Re: impressions, first day of LWE

Typo here. I meant to say we couldn't get the machine to work.
Partly its because there's no real way to focus on it when the floor
is open. The reality is, machines you dont' get set up the morning
before or the day before the show starts probably aren't ever going to
get set up.

I was there last year (or the year before, I forget), and the problem with the SunBlade was the add-on video card caused some kind of interrupt problem at boot. Removing the card allowed the boot and install to work.

I'd have to say the first day seemed to be a rousing success.

FYI, my impression is that a lot of the recent RedHat moves (charging
for updates, fedora) are driving away a lot of customers and that's
resulting in a real spike in Debian interest. Purely anecdotal, tho.

Actually, we do work with the US Army and related contractors and they dislike the added procurement steps they have to go through to load a server with Red Hat Enterprise Linux these days. We just deployed a Debian stable box running JBoss/PostgreSQL to generate reports from one of their databases as a pilot for them. Of course, it runs great! Hopefully, the first of many...

Thanks to all the supporters working the booth! Wish I could have been there this year.
