Hi there, thanks for your fast reply. If it is really this autoneg 
problem - then it should be as easy as this:

1.) activate optical lightwave 1GB-NIC (eth1) on tjener
    Do you have any suggestions for sharing traffic between eth0 and 
 eth1 ? Old eth0 could - for instance - serve for internet gateway only, 
 while the fast GB-NIC could do the inbound traffic.
 Any hints on where to start with?

2.) configure switch. before, I have to change its IP from 192.168.1.x 
    to either 10.x fixed IP or DHCP. Any howto's on how to access an
 192er switch from within a 10er network (virtual NIC?)?
