There is backports of KDE 3.2.x that runs on Debian Woody.

Probably the easiest way to aproach this is to migrate to sarge:

Klaus Ade Johnstad has made a hell of a book called "Running a Skolelinux 
network". He is in the midle of a process getting new stuf into the book, 
and translate it into english. Unfortunatly it's in Norwegian just now. In 
the meantime the old "ICT administration manual for Skolelinux" could help?
